I honestly tried not to spend too much honestly money but somehow ended up with a $26 lunch. Good thing is that the food was delicious. It looks like a fast food place but they do bring the food to you as well as clean up for you. Knowing that I should have left a tip.

Me: "Kai (my son), what's your favorite food? French fries? Hamburger?..." Kai: "Sushi!" I wish I could have given the same answer when I was a kid. I have great memories of cheap and excellent sushi in NYC and I told Kai about it before going there... Unfortunately, nowadays, NYC is way more expensive than it used to be and sushi in particular seems super expensive. But Kai does not care about money and he wanted sushi... after a few days of choosing food without asking him, he got to choose and, of course, he chose sushi. Fortunately we had walked by a sushi shop called Sushi1 that has good reviews and sells $1 sushi... So we ordered in. I couldn't find any $1 sushi on their Uber Eats page but maybe prices are different when you order in. Anyway it's still quite cheap for NYC (we paid about $60 for 3 with no dessert and ate enough) so no big deal. When the food arrived, I must say I was not confident as it didn't look very good. But it's just the look: both the rice and the fish are fresh, tasty and well prepared. The yellowtail and scallion temaki probably was the less good item but it was decent enough. A good option to eat sushi on a tight budget while in NYC. Sushi 1 is a wonderful place for succulent sushi. Cafeteria-style seating reminiscent of authentic Japanese bistro. A great place to grab a bite to eat.

This place is amazing, starting with the food that it's so fresh and tasty, every bite of their sushi worth it. The service was amazing the guy who attend the register is so nice and he is really concern about all you need in the table. They really deserve 5 stars, really good experience

I want to love it and give it 5 stars because I can tell this place was founded with a lot of care and passion but the sushi is warm and loose. The staff is wonderful and the decor is fantastic but the rolls are just loose and warm. I like a cold tight roll not a loose, floppy, warm roll. I’ve tried it twice and both times have had the same disappointing sushi.

I had a great lunch quickie at Daigo. actually it was a standing one as there are no seats, its sort of a standing bar. Two handrolls and a Miso soup. Outstanding. at $15. The rolls were fresh, the rice was great. The seaweed wrapper was outstanding. I had worse and paid more at some fancy Omakase restaurants. It wasn’t a standing quickie though 🤷♂️.

Located just off of 4th Ave on Carroll St, this little sushi spot has proven to be one of the best in the neighborhood. Nothing "fancy" and over the top, this sushi let's the fish shine versus typical places that cover with various sauces. When we first started going here, we had no idea it was the same restaurant as the one in Dekalb Market. The prices are very affordable, for sushi standards, and well packaged in thoughtfully designed boxes to go if you don't eat on site. There's at least a dozen, or more sushi restaurants around this area, however this has become our go to for consistent quality without trying to mask flavors with sauces. There is indoor and outdoor seating as well and a very clean establishment. Eating on site, you don't have to wait long as the sushi is prepared quickly by the master sushi chef.

Located on Canal Street in the heart of Chinatown NYC, this food court stand makes steamed rice rolls to order. Ignore that it is all served on disposable plates. The food is well prepared and delicious. The space has open tables for all patrons of various food vending stands. Various items can be included to fill the steamed rice rolls. Ordering and payment is done by tablet or at the counter if you have questions. Recommended for a quick snack or lunch.

Excellent rice rolls at this little spot inside a food court in Chinatown. I got an order of the shrimp and another of the pork - though I probably just needed one. They are good portions. The rolls were nice and thin. They also offer a selection of sauces - I gave mine a healthy coat of chili oil and they hit the spot!

Their rice noodle roll are soft and made to order, so they are nice and hot and fresh! They have customized rice noodle roll that you can pick and choose your ingredients to add in. I ordered a plain rice roll with egg, bbq pork, scallion, and 4 curry fish balls on top. Sauces are provided at the pick up station, so please serve yourself. Oh, their curry fish balls are pretty soft and chewy with delicious curry sauce flavor vs other places are usually more hard or tasteless fishballs. I also ordered their crepe with pork floss and scallion. The crepe comes with these crunchy cracker or chip like ingredient and lettuce. So the overall crepe was pretty good with multiple textures while eating that. But I gotta say, it is very filling! One upsetting and disappointing part was while eating the rice roll, there was a small plastic piece inside!! Quite disturbing while trying to enjoy the food.

Always one of my first meals when I’m in NYC…then multiple times thereafter. The steamed rice rolls are all made to order. Self order at the ordering screen and wait for your number to be called. Make sure to add the condiments that are to your right when you’re picking up your order! Add the peanut sauce drizzle, soy sauce, and chili sauce, if you’re so inclined! (If you’re ordering the meat or shrimp options, just know that the style of this dish is NOT suppose to be fully loaded with the protein! It’s mainly a noodle dish with some stuffing like maybe 3 shrimp or so. So manage your expectations of what you think a dish should be without knowing about a dish from another culture and how it’s usually prepared.)
Food is Life
The rice roll is the most expensive out of all the rice roll places nearby but it is also the tastiest. The Joe’s special #1 has great flavor with the meat and dried shrimp, gives you all the sauces including peanut sauce, sweet soy sauce and chili sauce. I would definitely come back for this again at the Canal street market!

This place is a disappointment. Positives are that the chicken was still moist and the roll was loaded with green chilies and tangy pickled onions. On the other hand, spices have an uncooked taste and the flavors are totally inauthentic. All the writeups in Zagat and the news articles feel absolutely questionable and uniformed. Come here if you have no idea what a Nizam's roll tastes like. Otherwise be prepared to have your itch for nostalgia be thoroughly unscratched.

Hands down the best roll I have had in New York yet. Worth the visit. I wish they served some kind of chutney or sauce with it. However it was pretty yummy and we loved the chat pata paneer roll.

Food here is pretty good for the price. Keep in mind if they say it’s spicy, it is super spicy even if you have a high tolerance! I dropped a star for their masala chai. We didn’t get any taste of spices expected in masala chai, it was just a good chai. Place is a little small but they have seating inside. You can see cooking right infront of you.

Just back in hotel and finished the meal. As a sushi lover, I have tried quite some sushi restaurants in NYC. I would say this restaurant is one of the best! Might even want to order from them again if I feel hungry later 😋 After this satisfying meal, I suddenly feel so random and read the reviews of this restaurant one by one. I am so surprised that quite many of the reviews have only 1 star and saying the staff here are racism. I feel sorry if they are true. This is also one of the reasons why I am writing my first review on Google. I just want to be fair. In my experience, I think they are doing good for the food. Service wise, since I did not dine here, I did not have so much feelings. I would say it’s just normal. Wooo maybe this restaurant is lucky that I am writing this for them (I swear I don’t know them at all) and I am in a good mood today HAHAHA. Sadly I’m actually leaving NYC tomorrow but I will be back very soon! I think if I don’t order from them again later today I would definitely order next time when I come NY for work again :D

“On Friday, July 21st, 2023, I had a frightening experience with blatant racism at JR Sushi in Manhattan. After leaving one of my accounts following a presentation, I arrived at the restaurant around 9:30 pm feeling hungry. JR Sushi appeared uncrowded and open, so I decided to dine there. Upon entering, no one approached me to seat me, so I assumed it was a casual seat-yourself place. I approached the man at the bar/counter area to ask for a table, but he rudely handed me a menu and seemed uninterested. I insisted on a table, but he dismissively shooed me away. Despite this, I decided to seat myself and proceeded to order a glass of wine and vegetable soup. As the same man came to take my order, he condescendingly questioned if that was all I wanted. I remained polite, stating I might order more later. This uncomfortable situation made me feel like I needed to prove myself, assuming they might be stereotyping me as a Black person. Later, a White couple entered the restaurant, and the employees rushed to greet and seat them, but I didn’t receive the same treatment. When my small soup arrived, I realized I needed more food and politely asked for the menu. The man snatched my wine and soup, telling me to ‘GET OUT.’ I was confused, embarrassed, and hurt. I recorded the incident, giving him a chance to rectify the situation, but he continued telling me to leave. Other customers also witnessed his rudeness. As a Black person in America, I know the importance of raising awareness about mistreatment. I’ll report this incident to the neighborhood committee board and inform the surrounding businesses. Such behavior shouldn’t be tolerated, and I won’t patronize JR Sushi again. This hurtful and offensive experience should never happen to anyone. -DO NOT PATRONIZE THIS RESTAURANT-JR. SUSHI!!!”

The restaurant appeared unclean ( dust on surfaces and equipment). I took a chance and ordered a garden salad, miso soup, and yogurt lychee drink. The salad was iceberg lettuce that were packed in a plate with 2 cherrie tomatoes and what appeared to be dried out carrot (spirals). As I ate the salad, I had to use my hand as it was not chopped up. I also noticed what appeared to be an insect after eating the top portion. I was grossed and proceeded to start feeling ill. This location is not sanitary and should be closed for in depth cleaning. I do not recommend anyone from eating here and plan on reporting as this is a health hazard. Outside of the restaurant says “A”. I am unsure when was the last rating. I really hate wasting money on food. I have to throw it away. I plan to take it to the restaurant to ask for my money back and if that doesn’t work. I’ll dispute with my bank. But def reporting to health department.

This is one of our favorite Indian food chain for over years. Our must visit when in NYC, chicken tikka( available) and shrimp rolls (no longer available) are our favorites. Peak hours will be super busy, grab and go would be best. When we visited on Saturday around 5:30, less crowded and we could sit and relax and had a bite of our favorites! Food is fresh, same taste every time! I must say, you would have more veggie options than non-veg! 😀

Went here today for the first time with my work wife. We both thought the food was so delicious! I had the Chicken Tikka Roll and she had the Aloo Masala Roll. I also ordered a side of the home made spicy chips. The rolls were so good and the chips were seasoned perfectly and nice and crunchy. Everything tasted so fresh and was so well seasoned. The perfect meal to enjoy while walking around. The staff was so kind and respectful and the place is small but had so much charm. Will def be back.

I dined in on 8th September 2023 around 7.30 pm and here is the experience One recurring issue we encountered was the inconsistent quality of their wraps. On each visit, we anticipated a delightful culinary experience, yet each time we were disappointed. Despite ordering different types of wraps, the end result was always the same—poorly wrapped and disappointing. It is disheartening to witness a simple task such as properly wrapping a wrap being continuously overlooked. Moreover, what amplifies our disappointment is the lackluster response from the staff when we attempted to provide feedback. On our last visit, we took the initiative to express our concerns to the cashier, hoping to convey our dissatisfaction and find out if there were improvements in the making. To our surprise, the cashier displayed a complete lack of knowledge about our feedback, stating he had no information regarding such matters. It's disconcerting when the staff members are seemingly unaware of any customer feedback loop or show little interest in rectifying recurring issues.
